The ​Lord God Almighty is a God of love. Love cannot be in the absence judgment. Judgment and punishment, therefore, are essential composites of love. Wherever love exists, it exists because of judgment. Judgment advances the cause of love, and punishment empowers both love and judgment. Although the human concept of love disavows any connection to punishment, it is because of punishment that one can experience love.

Imagine where our world would be if no one ever judged the actions of another. Imagine what our lives would be like if the human concept of love prevailed. It would mean that life would be a free-for-all with mayhem being the dominant theme. I cannot imagine who would wish to live in a world in which everyone was free to do as they pleased, and no one was ever judged or punished. Punishment is essential when violations of universal law exist. It is the punishment that causes a realignment of principles, and a reordering of precepts. And it is the punishment that removes the stain of sin.

The repentance must acknowledge the need for punishment, otherwise it is not genuine repentance. It must seek to right what was wrong, and to fix what was broken. It also must recognize in itself the pain of rejection of universal precepts. Otherwise, it is destined to be a cyclical pattern of repeat offenses. Anytime one views repentance as never-ending, one must acknowledge a misconception of the nature of genuine repentance. One also must acknowledge that the status quo will prevail, because it is impossible for genuine repentance to be anything but volcanic in its transformational character.

Repentance is an essential component of kingdom building. Repentance also is an essential component of eternity, because it is on repentance, and on the constant process of realignment that eternity is built. Eternity demands a repentant heart. Eternity also demands constant and never-ending growth. And finally, eternity demands love.
