When you are the pinch hitter for your team, you know that you have a very important role, one in which you have to tell the team anything they have done that deviates from the game plan. I want to be a pinch hitter for the kingdom of God, so that I can speak my mind when I see disciples of Jesus who are members of his kingdom doing things that the world often does, and saying things that the world says.
How can we claim to be one with God, a new creation, washed by the blood of Jesus, cleansed of the stain of sin, yet continue to live the same life we have always lived? How can we not have a desperation to live spotlessly, whatever that means to us? How can we not crave communion with God to such a degree that we would never ever sin deliberately? How can we not call at the top of our voices, pleading for God's forgiveness each time we sin accidentally? How can we not love with such profundity, that no one would dare call us hypocrites? How can we, who are members of God's kingdom, not love the members of God's kingdom, and want for them what we ourselves want? Aidan Perry
